In 1969 renowned French graphic artist Bernard Villemot was hired by Bally to design their advertising posters. Villemot stripped out the detail and excess clutter instead focussing on showcasing the human form, in particular the modern and glamorous woman, in a way that was engaging and abstract. Colour blocking, use of negative and positive space, and minimal lines were the signature style elements of his compositions. He was known primarily for his iconic advertising images for Orangina, Bally, Perrier, Bergasol and Air France. Greatly influenced by the Bauhaus Villemot had a sharp artistic vision and for a unique ability to distill an advertising message to a memorable image with simple, elegant lines and bold colours.
